Shifting from Fedora 8 to Ubuntu 8.10
This is something i had been planning for a very long time since i found my fedora 8 boring .Its not that fedora isnt good , but i was done configuring a hell lot in fedora that i wanted it to be more simple. So i waited till Itrepid Ibex gt released and since the day it got released i started taking back up of important files from my /usr/share.
I had changed my fedora themes and icons so much that i never looked like fedora. But then deep inside it was basically the fedora 8 and i wanted a change. So this after noon at 2 i started my reinstallation and i first thought i will wait for few more days to get the repos from hari who is bringing it from banaglore. The net at my house has a download limit which i had already very well exceeded.
Each time i had a prob with my fedora i had to go google , find out why the problem occurs and then get the solutions . But with ubuntu it was all one click away. And in no time i found all my service from music to IMs and topcoder applets up and running . Its so sweet using ubuntu … I ❤ ubuntu 🙂
And ubuntu has a much better support on the net than fedora.Go ubuntu Go !!!

You might want to try Omega which has great multimedia support

.Almost all of nice features in Ubuntu come from Fedora anyway – NetworkManager, PulseAudio and in the next version PackageKit and the version after that, Plymouth and so on.

@ neo : I totally agree with you, fedora is ok to use for some time. But then u get bored. You get bored of running around for each and every problem. And ubuntu has a great support. I had all my things up and running in 2-3 hrs… if it was fedora it would have taken me some days 🙂

One more Ubutian! And that too when I was planning to move to Fedora! Makes me stay put with Ubuntu. Should I try Fedora? I am in a dilemma
One Question : Did you try Fedora 10?

Both Fedora and Ubuntu are fine distributions. Neither sucks. I use Ubuntu out of preference. That does not make Fedora bad. It just isn’t for me.
We need to get past this my-distro-is-better-than-yours mentality. It is about offering choice. Some people like Fedora’s vision and implementation. Others don’t. My choosing one distro over another does not make me smarter or stupider than anyone else.
Similarly you can’t call someone a traitor for moving on. If you truly believe in choice and freedom then it is their right.

@jithin : dude the choice is urs.. i would say the ideal thing to do is use fedora for some time . It makes u learn few things. and then switch to ubuntu. Btw fedora 10 seems to have the first glitch free Pulse Audio ….
@linuxcanuck : dude we are just playing over here.. he didnt mean tht “traitor thing” serious. and i totally agree with u . As i said above its better to use fedora first learn how to go the tough way and then go for ubuntu 🙂
