Posted in Kamal, general by Sathya Narayanan on April 27, 2008

This  song appears in Dasavatharam and when u look at the Promo video screened it has no resemblance to any of the story lines and the “Come Dance with me Before you Go”— I think  tht turned some bulb on in my head and then i checked out few site and they had the same notion. This song is something like a Behind Screen Work to show the way different charaters and their make up which comes at the end of the movie. And KSR Dances in this one !!!!

Bugs in Screenlets – My first attempt

Posted in Linux, computers by Sathya Narayanan on April 27, 2008

I had earlier written about screenlets in my blog few days ago which you can find here. And when i started using few of them , i found tht some of them had silly bugs like the clock showing some wrong time and the battery meter not displaying the correct status.

These are not vista like gadgets which run on some dll files. these are open source ones and were written using python. So last night when i thought of studying for comp Arch , this idead struck me. “Why  not rectify these errors ” .So i sat down before my comp. and tried to understand the python source codes an finally came out with solutions and woohaa !!! they really work fine now..

So tht was my first outing of contributing back to open source(though i have not distributed them back). So if any body  needs the correct code for the ACPI Battery Screenlet and the Clock Screen let. do mail me at sathya.phoenix@gmail.com

From Jackie Chan’s official website on Dasavatharam and His Trip to India

Posted in Jackie Chan, Kamal, general by Sathya Narayanan on April 27, 2008

I have just returned from the most amazing and wonderful trip to Chennai, India, where I went to attend the audio launch of Oscar Films’ upcoming movie Dasavatharam.

I should tell you that Oscar Films is responsible for distributing my films in India and has been doing this for over twenty years, since Battle Creek Brawl. It’s because of them that I’m so well known in India and they are very old friends of mine. A few months ago, Mr. Ramesh Babu from Oscar Films and Mr. Vikram Lamba, brother of my Myth screen companion Mallika Sherawat, came to Hong Kong to personally invite me to this function. At the time, I looked at my schedule and winced. I was booked almost every day in April in Beijing, doing public service announcements and other events for the Olympics. How in the world would I fit in a trip to India? But I was so moved by their sincerity, and missed India so much (it’s been 3 years since The Myth) that I shifted things around so that I could squeeze in a very short trip.

As I told you, the purpose of the Chennai trip was to attend the music launch of Oscar Films’s latest production, Dasavatharam. In Indian films, the music is a very important part of the production, and these events are quite extravagant. The organizers had also added a fund-raising element to it, and I was there to present a check to the charity organizers.

Oscar Films was extremely generous in providing me with everything I could possibly need on this trip. Since I was only going to be in Chennai for about twenty-four hours, I didn’t think that anyone would know of my arrival and I was completely overwhelmed when I arrived at Chennai airport! So many fans and friends came to greet me, and it was at that moment I knew this would be the beginning of an amazing trip.

The premiere event was incredible. I saw so many friendly faces, and so many famous faces! Many stars of Indian cinema were there and I recognized their faces, but I didn’t know how to pronounce their names (you know I’m much better with faces than with names). I was surprised and happy that so many people seemed to know me and wanted to talk to me. Oscar Films obviously did a great job promoting and distributing my previous films! I was really overwhelmed and I did my best to talk to as many people as possible. I hope I didn’t offend anyone by not giving them enough attention.

The movie, Dasavatharam, is truly a sight to behold. The story, directing, acting, camera work, special effects, everything about it is amazing. It really opened my eyes to modern Indian cinema. Of course I had seen Indian films before; I admire many of the actors, and really like the music and dancing. But this movie is really something else. Every element was amazing to me; and all the elements together just made a perfect and incredible movie! I won’t spoil anyone’s surprise by revealing the story now, since I think everyone should watch this movie. But I will say two things: watch for the environmental message, and all you directors in Hong Kong and China, watch this movie and start working harder than ever, because very soon now, Indian cinema will overtake us in the eyes of the international audience!

Because of my busy schedule, I had to leave Chennai the same night, after the event ended. I arrived in Beijing early the next morning and imagine my surprise when I was greeted with, “We heard it didn’t go too well; are you okay?” I honestly had no idea what everyone was talking about. I’d had such a thrilling and interesting trip and everything had gone quite smoothly.

When I saw some of the news reports on the Internet, I was extremely upset. One article accused me of ridiculous things like refusing to drink India’s bottled water – they said I brought my own imported mineral water – and of traveling with my own personal chefs because I refuse to eat Indian food. There were also reports of my so-called offensive behavior, dismissing the Indian stars and not talking to anyone. What complete nonsense! I have nothing but respect for Indian culture and Indian cinema, and even though I may not know all the stars by name or how to properly pronounce the names of the ones I do know, this has nothing to do with my admiration for them. And saying that I won’t eat Indian food! Nothing could be further from the truth; I adore Indian food, and in fact had two excellent meals on this trip and was so full I could barely leave my seat!

To the reporters who wrote those offensive articles, I say this: You say I brought my own water. What brand did I bring? You can find out from the housekeepers at the hotel whether I did such a thing. You say I refused to eat Indian food. Do some real research and talk to the three butlers the hotel assigned to my room and ask them what I ate! You say I holed up in my air-conditioned hotel room, ignoring my hosts. Why would I travel all the way to India and refuse to leave my hotel room?

I’ve been in the public eye for many years and I have put up with a lot of ridiculous things written about me. I very seldom lash out at anyone. But truly, these irresponsible “reporters” spoiled the memory of my trip, and I am so afraid that when my gracious and wonderful hosts read the lies, they may get the complete wrong impression of me and my feelings about them and about the event. Therefore, I am posting this message on my website immediately to set the record straight.

While I am on the topic of irresponsible journalism, some reporters recently asked me about my participation in the Olympic torch relay. I jokingly answered that no one better try to come near me while I’m carrying the torch. I said it as a joke, and believe me, I made it quite clear that I was fooling around. I have tremendous faith in the security measures being taken. The next day there were news reports all over the world saying things like “Jackie Chan Threatens Olympic Protestors” and “Kung fu Star Will Chop Down Protestors.” It seems that everywhere in the world there will be rotten apples that spoil the good ones in the barrel.

I hope this has cleared things up and that my gracious and generous Indian hosts and all of my fans and friends will be reassured that I had a lovely and memorable trip

DASAVATHARAM Audio Review

Posted in Kamal by Sathya Narayanan on April 26, 2008

I could nt have asked for a better music . All songs rock and the song which kamal sings..is THE bst… and the ulaga Nayagan song is all  rocking…

For the individual song Review:

There are no duets in the movie. And asin is just another charater and not heroine.

1. Oh Oh Sanam:  The song is sung by Kamal Himself and is a nice one indeed with some awesome lyrics by Vairamuthu…

2.Ulaga Nayagan(come Dance With me): This  i  guess is kamal intro . The starting music is awesome but it fades away a bit in the middle.Again Lyrics by Vairamuthu

3.Kaa Karupannunkum : From my analysis this song is for Mallikka Sherawat who plays a Club Dancer in some club in US. And again Lyrics by Vairamuthu .sung by Pop Shalini

4.Kallai Mattum : This song is sung by hariharan and this is set in the 12th Century when the clash between Shiva followers and Vishnu Followers occur. The picturisation of this song is said to be Grand.Lyrics by Valli.

5.Mukunda Mukunda : This is sung by Sadhana Sargam and this one is really soothing and awesome lyrics by Vaali. Its completely devotional and has Asin in it and the Kamal 90 yr old Granny in it.. The big surprise was the Kamal Voice at the End .Mind Boggling.. Couldnt even beleive till i saw the CD cover.

Kamal has used Voice modualtion to give ten different voices for ten roles

I remember when kamal told in an interview tht he was first not willing to take in Himesh . but then later on listnening to music he changed his idea completely…. so tht reminds me of quotes from many ppl who say “Kamal brings out the best in you when u r working with him”

Those who cant afford to buy the SONY marketed audio CD , u have the link here … in the blog below…

Interview with the Producer

Posted in Kamal by Sathya Narayanan on April 24, 2008

DASAVATHARAM – Making history

He is one of the few producers, who don’t make it even to the muhurat of their own movies. But Expresso, caught up with the producer of Dasavatharam, Oscar Ravichandran, just three days ahead of the audio launch. Here is all the news, straight from the man who has pumped in more than Rs 60 crore for this historic venture

  • C When will the movie get released?

The movie is complete. Shooting got over long ago. Dubbing, re-recording and all the post-production work is done. All we are waiting for is the computer graphics portion to be done. A Germany-based company is helping us with it. We are expecting 40 shots of the tsunami, which will feature in the movie, to be done by them. Expect an official announcement about the movie’s release date in 10 days.

  • Does the movie have an extensive use of computer graphics in it?

Yes, and I’m not sure, which movie has used graphics to this extent in Asia. The use of graphics in this film would be the highest after Jurassic Park and Terminator.

  • Amitabh Bachchan, Jackie Chan and Mammooty have seen the trailer. How has the response been?

They’ve all been very happy about it. The fact that Jackie Chan is flying down from Shanghai just to be part of it is a proof of how much he enjoyed it. Mammooty saw it once and asked us to play it again. “It has become Kamal’s habit to excel. What do we guys do if he is so wonderful?” he asked.

Bachchan too was very pleased with what he saw.

  • Is it a period movie?

Actually no, it is a movie that deals with both the 12th and the 21st centuries.

  • Has the movie been certified by the censor board?

Yes, it has been cleared with a U certificate. It is now 2 hours and 50 minutes long.

Tell us more about Kamal Haasan’s involvement in the movie.

At some point of time, all of us in the crew got tired doing the movie. Kamal was the only person who never lost interest and worked till the end with the same zeal he started with. He actually worked for 240 days, with all the cumbersome make up. And one must understand that he is not doing 10 roles or get-ups. He is doing 10 different characters in the movie. It is a great achievement and will take at least a decade for any actor to outdo this performance, say by taking up 11 roles.

  • Now for the music. You’ve entrusted the job to a person who doesn’t belong to Tamil Nadu. How has it turned out?

The wait is almost over for the fans. The audio release is happening soon and they will get to listen it for themselves. The music will definitely be a highlight, even for the 12th century part.

  • Has Himesh sung? And how about Kamal Haasan?

(Laughs) Yes, of course, Himesh has sung a song. Kamal too has sung one song.

  • Apart from Kamal’s 10 roles, what would you call the specialty of the movie?

The pace of the movie, undoubtedly .

When the movie was announced with the Kamal-KS Ravikumar combo, it seemed like a comedy. With so much money into it now and the 12th century portions, it seems like a serious theme.

It’s a pacy entertainer. A film you can watch with the entire family And we have .

ensured that there will be no confusion between the different Kamals you see in the movie. But we have done away with a few elements: There is no usual romance, no duet, no political drama or violence. It’s an entertainer that everybody will enjoy, after a long time.
